This is a very high quality bench micrometer made by Steinmeyer. This micrometer is the smallest size of three in a series that we are offering for auction. This bench micrometer must have been made for a specific application because of its unusual configuration, perhaps for inspection or quality control. Engraved on the front name plate is 1 1/4" - 2". It has a V-block support between the mic and the set screw adjustable anvil at the opposite end. The spindle is in line with the center of the V-block, the adjustable anvil is offset. Something we don't understand about this mic is that when the mic is set at its smallest reading, 1 inch, there is approximately 0.91 inch between the spindle and the anvil. The graduations on the micrometer barrel read in inches but when the barrel shows 1 inch of movement, the spindle actually moves half that distance or 1/2 inch. So at its largest measurement of 2 inches there is actually 1.41 inches between the anvil and spindle. It looks like this piece may have been dropped and the ratchet cap and sleeve is bent. The ratchet does still work. The thimble is 1.135 inches in diameter and 1.85 inches to the end of the ratchet cap. The cast base is approximately 3.5 inches long by 1.5 inches wide by 1.8 inches tall. It is heavy and weighs about 2 pounds. Steinmeyer is known for its quality. This should make a great addition to your machine shop instruments.
