AMBROTYPE Sixth Plate Mother & Daughter Cased

This is a wonderful early ambrotype in a case. It is a sixth plate in size which is 2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. We think the subject is a mother and daughter sitting and facing forward. Their cheeks are lightly tinted pink. The case looks to be embossed paper on wood with birds, ribbons, cattails and flowers decorating both sides. The spine hinge is still intact and the 2 sides are together. The case measures 3 1/4 by 3 3/4 inches. It has a lovely empressed velvet design inside. The gold mat and protector are intact and in beautiful condition. The ambrotype photograph of the ladies is in excellent condition. There is a border that matches the mat that looks to be part of the photography. We acquired this at an estate sale. Inside was a slip of paper. Typewritten text on it reads 'JANE HASWELL ROSSITER', Mother's mother'. We do not have any history on the women in this early and fascinating photograph. It surely is a great addition to any antique photography collection!
