This is a fabulous ABP American Brilliant Cut Glass low bowl with shallow sides. It is signed J. Hoare & Co., Corning & 1853 in a circular etched hallmark. We do not know the pattern for this piece. It has a saw tooth edge with large scallops. It features a deeply cut, large asterick type design with cross cuts on all the rays coming from the center. In between the rays are small hobstars. This bowl measures 8 inches in diameter, is 2 inches tall and is 3/8 inch thick. This bowl is in excellent condition, very clear and bright. No cracks, one 'saw-tooth' has a flake chip to the outside of the bowl with a rough edge in the top of the point but does not lose its shape. There is very, very minimal wear spots on the rest of the tips. The edge is very nice overall. This wonderful signed bowl is a 'must have' for any brilliant cut glass collection!
